Wax Carving Workshop:

Starting with a blank piece of wax, shape, file and carve until you creat a custom a signet ring or pendant. Practice both hot and cold wax carving trechniques to gain a basic understainsing of the tools and process for wax casting, and create a unique design.

What is Lost Wax Casting?

Carving jewelry models in soft wax allows for the exploration of form, texture, and intricate design features that would be difficult to achieve directly in metal. Once the model is complete, it is then encased in a heat-resistant mold. The wax is melted away (“lost”), leaving a cavity in its exact shape. Molten metal is poured into this cavity, producing a faithful reproduction of the original wax design.

Casting Your Masterpiece:

Wax models will be sent out for casting, and the finished silver product will be polished and posted back within 4 weeks of the class. Your new design will be made out of high quality sterling silver and ready for everyday wear.

***At the end of class your completed wax model will be weighed to calculate the total cost of silver necessary for casting. If the cost of your piece exceeds the $50 silver credit included with the workshop, payment will be required before casting. A typical ring/pendnat will use anywhere between $50 - $150 worth of silver materials.***
